anywhere but here

next event | about

started in 2017, anywhere but here is a party put together by jake & parsa & friends featuring vinyl records, video projections, in brooklyn spaces with art from local artists — always with proceeds routed to good causes.

about our next event:
Any casual observer of global events will have some awareness of the recent Iranian protests. They will have heard the name Mahsa Amini, and they may have even felt moved by the ensuing peaceful demonstrations, civil disobedience, and the Iranian regime’s brutal response.

But what they have likely paid scant attention to is how historic women's role in this movement is. This event is our small way of celebrating Iran's women and the Iranian people's struggle for the thing we, in the West, can take for granted far too easily, far too often: liberty.

“The girls and women of Iran are just bitchin’ brave, flipping the bird at its Supreme Leader in a challenge to one of the most significant revolutions in modern history.” Their situation, as Robin Wright poignantly captures in her piece in the New Yorker, and their resolve in the face of it, is unfathomable. What is going on in Iran matters to the rest of the world. This is our generation’s South African moment: facing Iran’s gender-apartheid regime.

All profits will be donated to Amnesty International doing important work for human rights and internet freedom in Iran.
